Balcony tomatoes, season two
Four plants in 20-litre pots on a west-facing balcony. Last year I watered too often and fed too little; this year the other way round, and it went better.
- Cherry varieties ripened from late July. The large slicing type never really did.
- A layer of straw on the soil halved how often the pots needed water.
- Removing side shoots every few days kept the plants manageable without stakes taller than the railing.
Next year: two cherry plants, one paste tomato, and basil in the gaps.
